Outside the Cafe du Monde a trumpet player had us sing "This Little Light of Mine" with him.
A human statue. He had just spooked the kids when I snapped this shot.

Hi Dad, Scott, and Michael!
I just wanted to let you know that I will be at the train station on Tuesday at 1:00 A.M.
I can't wait for you to get home!!
~Adam;-)
In Sunday School, I asked all the 1st-6th graders at the 10:30 service if they knew anyone sitting on a train at that very time. Three hands went up immediately: Adam, Epi, and (helper-NOLA prayer partner) David. As I gave more hints - this group of 33 people had been painting, and cleaning up yards, and talking to people about Jesus (some of whom didn't want to even talk to Christians much less hear about Jesus), and playing with kids, and helping people get furniture into their houses, etc. - more hands went up. About 3/4 of the kids knew who you were enough to shout out (and they SHOUTED)- "New Orleans team" when I finally let them tell me who was sitting on the train.
Then I tried to give them an idea of how long you'd be on that train (and second train, and bus...). Several eyes got REAL big when they heard you had to stay on the train all night, and partway into another night.
Finally, I asked who wanted to go meet you all at 1:00 am. Only three hands went up: Adam, Epi and David.
But, even if you only have a few elementary age kids waiting for you at the station in Portland, you'll have a bunch more waiting to hear more of what you did to show and tell about Jesus.
And we prayed for you then, that you'd be able to rest on the train, and not want to hit each other with books because you were so tired of each other, and that God would keep the train safe from any problems. So NO HITTING EACH OTHER OVER THE HEAD WITH BOOKS 'cause a bunch of little kids prayed that you wouldn't! And get rest.
This is the last night that twenty or so households will be missing very important people for the night. Even those of us who don't have a porch light are keeping one on now.
We'll be SO glad to see you!
Hey guys! I pray that you had a restful night--I hope you slept. I am praying for your day ahead. I hope you can find peaceful and kind ways to pass the time and truly enjoy being with each other on this final day of your trip.
We are so anxious for you to be home and to hear more about your experiences in New Orleans. I'm praising God that He allowed you to be part of His plan to bring His message of hope and love to the people of NOLA.
Continue to represent Him well on the train, during your lay-overs, and to everyone you have contact with--especially each other (for me, this is more and more challenging as I get more and more tired...and it's my own family who I am the grumpiest with).
Can't wait to see you! Love, Sallie
